The Occupational Therapy Department, Faculty of Health Sciences (SOAHS), Manipal University, under the guidance of Master two days sensitization program of disability in the District Institute of Education and Learning Training (DIET) Collaborative Information Department here Rotary International and instruction. The program ended on Thursday.

A press release from the University of Manipal issued here said that the workshop was a continuation of ASHA: A program to raise awareness of learning (LD), which began in Udupi district in, 2015.

About 80 primary school teachers from the public and private schools in Udupi, Karkala, Byndoor, Kundapur and Brahmavar completed the program.

Sebestina Anita Dsouza, head of the occupational therapy department, said 12 to 20 percent of children have LD.

The identification and early treatment provides better results of the workshop instructor was to train them to identify children as early as possible with learning difficulties. Awareness program held regularly for teachers, children and parents to communicate LD. Teachers were trained in the use of material resources developed specifically for this workshop, including a manual and a mini-movie.

Manuel bilingual (English and Kannada) in LD with illustrations was developed by the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Manipal, teachers and students.

Information on the set in the herein characteristics in relation to children, the child in the class, the resources and government support for the same should be handled, are available.

Mini-movie titled "Poorvi" for schools will also be provided. This film was directed by Vinaya Suvarana English teacher Middle School Santa Maria, Kannarpady.

He faces the challenges of a child with learning difficulties and the role of all stakeholders, such as parents, teachers, authorities, doctors and therapists. It is a valuable educational tool knowledge and awareness among teachers and parents about the DA to improve in schools and public places.

Rajashekhar, Dean, SOAHS, Shrikiran Hebbar, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Kasturba Medical College, Subramanya Basri, assistant governor, Rotary International, Shekhar, the main food, Uday Kotian, member of Zilla Panchayat, P. Nagaraj, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan program coordinator, opened the workshop and resource material is released.
