Some students wrote exams in a quiet room to minimize distractions. Some will be accompanied by the class of a language interpreter signs in the classroom, while others make oral presentations, rather than written communication.

These are just some of the many types of university housing for students at colleges and universities with a diagnosis of any number of disabilities, such as anxiety and blurred vision.

Disclosure of your disability

Identification as a student with an exceptionality in high school will not be automatically transferred to the college or university, reminded the Ministry of Education building and leading the development.

Many post-secondary institutions offer summer courses for students with disabilities. "Transition Program Summer Pre-Flight", University of Guelph, for example, offers opportunities for students to learn to use adaptive technology.

Tips for Parents

  • Help your child needs to identify the resources to be successful and how to access it.
  • Support as they develop your child and strengthen their self-defense capabilities.
  • Since most students are over 18, Student Services of disabilities office staff should be allowed to pass on information to third parties, including their parents. Talk to your child, an agreement to to share information as you are comfortable.

Universities are a variety of disabilities. George Brown College, for example, provides support for students with disabilities, such as:

  • acquired brain injury
  • Hyperactivity and attention deficit
  • Blindness or visual impairment
  • Development, such as disorders of the autism spectrum
  • Deaf, deaf or hard of hearing
  • learning difficulties
  • Medical, such as epilepsy, HIV, diabetes, kidney disease
  • Mental health such as depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, disorders of the syndrome of humor and post-traumatic stress
  • Mobility, such as physical and neurological disability
