For years, students with learning disabilities in Idaho graduate with their peers when they were 18, then return to school and classes resume until they change 21 Bonneville School District 93 hope that with a new program for students with disabilities between 18-21 learning years.
"What we do here is that we get to teach life skills. Cooking, cleaning, needed things to be in their own independent," said Heather Gerard, program coordinator for the 93 district.
Gerard said the program is aimed at students who may never be able to live independently. The hope is to learn with the students skills, caregivers or parents are less stress in life.
"We will change the lives of children with this program. This program to enrich their lives in a way that has never enriched" Gerard said.
D93 recognize the new program in the former Campbell gym in Idaho Falls just off Channing Way.
The building is old, but the school district has seen a lot of help from local businesses. Sams Club, Lowes, Rio knives and other companies have hourly and objects from the man the school donated to help the current installation.
"We could not have done it without your help," Gerard said.
