Father's Day, I really wanted to spend time with my family - I have a wife and three children - a daughter who is 14 and two boys Sanna, Uzair, 10 and 5 Muhammed.
It is interesting that I have a learning disability, and I'm worried that there are still people who believe that people with a learning disability, like me, are unable to adequately care for their children - or even the children should not have to.
There are 1.4 million people with a learning disability in the UK and it is estimated that 7 percent (56,500) are the parents, but only half actually live with their children, or care. I think the reason why many people with a learning disability their children because negative attitudes have removed. Authorities believe that the parents are not able with learning difficulties, to provide for their children.
An example is a case where the place took earlier this year. A judge ordered four years, could be removed from their parents that a learning disability had both, despite "significant gaps" in services for adults who are not in front of the level of support that the parent is required. I think if the parents the support they need to believe, had given that family could stay together.
This attitude must change. a learning disability does not mean you can not look after their children - it just means you need additional assistance, the best parents to help themselves.
to be a father, is very, very special. I remember when my license on fatherhood and his work resumed, could not go home, wait. I have grown to see some very special memories of my children, to celebrate his birthday, when they started school. It's unfair that other people are not able with a learning disability to have these opportunities, simply because of what others think.
My learning disability means that some things can be more difficult for me, but that does not mean it is should not be a father. At its challenges, it is a big responsibility, but I love it. When we had our first child, which was very exciting. He felt like our family gathers once and my two children were born, to feel our family complete. I know that the support that I had made a big difference.
being a parent with a learning disability, a struggle can sometimes be. Including letters and documents can be difficult. For example, when my children were born, obtain the birth certificate was difficult. If the forms simple language use, parents with learning difficulties would be able more easily understood.
Help, my children can be a challenge with homework. Some of the topics they are studying hard to understand. Deal may be an obstacle to a bit with the teachers in the schools my children. I told them that I have a learning disability, but they do not understand what that means - it would be better if they took more time to understand.
The lack of understanding and negative attitudes towards people with a learning disability is something that happens every day in all walks of life. In employment, for example, I am 6 percent of people with a learning disability, who have a job. My job means that I can support my family, but many people with a learning disability who are able to work, and want to, can not get a job because of the negative attitude of employers. I fear what would me and my family happen if I lost my job.
More needs to support parents must be with learning difficulties and attitudes change. There must be an obligation to handle things in a positive way instead of going to extremes to take children from their parents and get involved lawyers. Break up families and relationships are not the answer.
When people with a learning disability have the appropriate support and assistance that may be fantastic parents your needs.
We are all human beings at the end of the day - the people first, not the disability. Everyone has the right to have children, the right to marry. to learn today Disability week before us is a better time than to understand ever, as we improve the lives of 1.4 million people in the country living with a learning disability.
