TAMPA - Professor at Florida Southern University Dr. David Allsopp named Sam Kirk Educator of the Year by the Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA).

The national award is given annually to an outstanding in the field of special education, a difference in the lives of people with learning disabilities teacher has made. The prize is named in honor of Dr. Samuel A. Kirk, a pioneer in the training. Kirk often credited with inventing the term "learning disabilities."

Allsopp is a professor of education of outstanding students of the Faculty of Education at USF, where he has taught since 2001.
