A new role was in Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust created to support adults with disabilities during the visit of supply, both in Ripon Community Hospital and to learn the hospital district Harrogate.
Ben Haywood joined as acute liaison nurse for people with learning difficulties, according to a similar role at the hospital York University NHS Foundation Trust.
He will be responsible for improving the patient experience through appropriate adjustments to improve access to hospital services and help to better understand and prepare for different treatment options.
Ben explains in detail the nature of its function:
Hospitals can be scary places for all, but some people are more difficult with learning disabilities, because it can be scary to new places, meeting new people and can not understand what is happening.
The service is open to anyone who has a learning disability and can benefit from this support specialized in the two hospitals.
Ben added:
A visit to the hospital or stay can be very distressing for families and caregivers. I can provide the support available for them to listen to their concerns and to transfer them to the proper authorities.
